OFCU team donates time

OFCU Gives Back

OFCU loves spreading the love in our communities and we make charitable contributions throughout the year. However, we are also aware that there are particular times when specific needs arise and we try to help fulfill them.

When school is out…
In Maine we are extremely fortunate that school meals are free to all students. But when school is out for the summer, some families may struggle with a larger grocery list - and food pantries see an increase in people seeking assistance. Knowing this, we recently made donations of $500 each to 12 food banks/pantries in Oxford County to help support their efforts. If you or someone you know needs help, the Good Shepard Food Bank’s website has a page where you can search for local food assistance.

In addition, we donated $3,500 to help fulfill grant requests made to Full Plates Full Potential to fund summer meal programs in RSU 56 and MSAD 44.

Funding
All the money we raise for Maine Credit Union’s Campaign For Ending Hunger, such as through our Senior Spotlights fundraiser each spring, is available for us to give directly to the food pantries and school programs mentioned above. If you’d like to contribute to the campaign, you can make a donation here.

Kitten Season
Spring and early summer are busy for local animal shelters and rescues due to ‘kitten season’. We donated $750 each in food & supplies or cash to Fairy Tails Rescue, Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills and Community Cat Advocates to help them feed, then spay and neuter, the many litters of kittens they are caring for right now. Feel free to visit their pages or find them on Facebook to learn how you can help by donating or fostering!

Reuse/Recycle
In a ‘spring cleaning’ effort, OFCU recently partnered with give IT. get IT out of Waterville to pick up computer equipment, monitors and printers that had been replaced earlier this year. If any of the equipment can be reused, they will find families or non-profit organizations in need of these items. Whatever cannot be reused, OFCU will pay to have them safely recycle it. We urge all businesses to consider give IT. get IT as an option when upgrading office equipment and technology.

Volunteering
Our team gives back by donating their time, too. This spring, employees once again volunteered to help with the annual River Valley Clean-Up and a group also helped place flags on the graves of veterans before Memorial Day. With the assistance of teammates, our marketing team provided activities for end-of-school-year events at Rumford and Meroby elementary schools. Be sure to follow us on Facebook to stay updated on all our community activity!

‘People helping people’ is the credit union way and OFCU strives to reflect that motto in everything we do – for our members and the communities we serve.
